Anthony Nicolaou
It is our honor to share that Anthony is a Foundation Recipient for the 2023 fundraising efforts!
We would like to take this time to introduce you to Anthony Nicolaou! This brave young man is 13 years old and was diagnosed with Acute T-Cell Leukemia in February 2023. Anthony went from being a teenager with no worries, playing baseball, and going fishing to fighting Leukemia and giving it all he's got!
Following just days after his diagnosis, Anthony had major surgery to relieve swelling on his brain and the doctors had to leave a portion open for healing. Following surgery, Anthony underwent treatment and medical supervision until July. In July, he had a scan and the results showed the cancer was not completely gone.
The treatment plan in July changed and recently he has fought courageously through full body radiation (11 total days), chemotheraphy (total 5 days), only 1 day of rest then a bone marrow transplant on August 8, 2023! He will be in the hospital for at least 6 weeks and then moved into a different facility close to the hospital until November 16!
It is safe to say that Anthony is the strongest child we know and has spent almost all of 2023 in a hospital setting or treatment.
WIth prayers, God's will, and his C I R C L E of support- we have F A I T H that he will be healed!
Please keep Anthony and his family in your prayers as they continue to move forward in Anthony's Journey!
Also, if you would like to send cards to be forwarded to Anthony- please message or email us and we will make it happen!
Jonathan Lane
Many of you know Brittany's brother, Jonathan, who is the inspiration behind the Foundation. The Foundation and its board members are thankful, proud, and honored that Jonathan will be a recipient of funds raised during our 2023 fundraiser(s) including the 2nd Annual Fairway to Recovery!
In July 2022, Jonathan was riding an ATV at minimum speed (5mph) when his hands and arms went completely numb making it impossible for him to turn. He hit an embankment and unfortunately flipped, and the ATV landed on him. Jonathan was sent to a local hospital via ambulance followed by being life flighted to the nearest trauma hospital for emergency surgery. Jonathan was diagnosed with "a complete spinal cord injury" in his cervical spine meaning ALL nerve "traffic" was completely shut off in a section of his spine resulting in F U L L PARALYSIS from his chest down.
After surgery was complete the night of the accident, the doctor stated there was a 5-6% chance of Jonathan regaining mobility. He is now fused from C2-C7. While in the hospital in ICU, Jonathan fought pnuemonia not once but twice while on the ventilator, staph infections, other infection, as well as blood pressure and temperature challenges.
Jonathan was blessed with no internal bleeding, no brain damage, etc. and woke up fully conscience 3 days later.
Against ALL odds, Jonathan is now labeled "an incomplete spinal cord injury" meaning he does have some nerve traffic going through his spine resulting in SOME movement! His left side is getting stronger as the time goes by and so is his right side but it still remains a little weaker than the left! He has reached so many medical milestones and the fact that he's here today- is a M I R A C L E in itself! He's not able to go to GA rehab as we weren't able to raise enough last year; however, he is now getting outpatient rehab at a local facility but of course insurance doesn't even BEGIN to cover the amount of visits he wants and needs!
Now a year out from his accident, Jonathan continues to face many medical challenges including kidney infections, blood pressure challenges and multiple hospital stays just in the past few months. We are HONORED to be part of Jonathan's Journey and can't wait to see what the future holds!
With his C I R C L E of friends and everyone's F A I T H, he WILL regain motor function! Jonathan fights everyday for new sensation and movement! His determination is unmatched and his personality and positive attitude through it all is truly remarkable!
Please continue to keep Jonathan and his family in your prayers as they move forward in the next part of Jonathan's Journey!
